Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel to attend G20 meeting in Gandhinagar, India

The G20 finance ministers and central bank governors are set to meet in Gandhinagar, India, from 17 to 18 July. Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel will attend the two-day meeting, which will focus on issues including the current situation in the global economy and its risks, notably the fight against inflation and the preservation of financial stability. Sustainability in the financial system will be another topic of discussion. On this aspect, the Bundesbank considers it especially important to improve access to and the quality of climate and biodiversity data. This would form the necessary basis for private sector investment decisions. Participants in the G20 meeting will also discuss options for the regulation of crypto-assets.

About the G20

The G20 is the premier informal forum for international economic cooperation. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture on all major international economic issues.

The G20 comprises the 19 most important advanced and emerging market economies (EMEs) as well as the European Union and thus represents about two-thirds of the world's population. Together, its members account for almost 80% of global gross domestic product and roughly 60% of world trade.

The G20 finance ministers and central bank governors primarily focus on the prevention and management of economic and financial crises, the promotion of robust, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and the further development of the international financial architecture.

Bundesbank is an independent G20 member

As Germany’s central bank, the Bundesbank is a member of the G20 in its own right, alongside the Federal Government. The President of the Bundesbank and an alternate attend the regular meetings of the finance ministers and central bank governors. These meetings serve to prepare the monetary and financial issues discussed at the annual G20 summit attended by the Heads of State or Government. This year’s G20 summit will be held in New Delhi from 9 to 10 September.

The tangible result of a G20 summit and the meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors is the final declaration, known as the communiqué. It includes an assessment of the current situation as well as an action plan for the G20’s ongoing work.
