The monthly balance sheet statistics list domestic banks (MFIs)' assets and liabilities based on the books at the end of the month. They thus represent the most comprehensive statistical survey of the banking industry in Germany and are at the core of the banking statistics reporting system.

With the amending directive to the BRRD (Directive (EU) 2017/2399), the creditor hierarchy was harmonised by the EU legislator (the new creditor hierarchy).

SEPA credit transfers have been available for processing both domestic and cross-border European payments since 28 January 2008. In order to use this procedure, a payment service provider must first sign the corresponding European Payments Council (EPC) adherence agreement and convert its systems to process SEPA payments.
