Writing in an op-ed piece in the German “Handelsblatt” newspaper, Sabine Mauderer, First Deputy Governor of the Bundesbank, has underlined the importance of an autonomous Europe in times of geopolitical tensions. That autonomy will only succeed with a strong German economy, she explained. “Firms need to be able to rely on funding from a European financial ecosystem, especially when they have to navigate challenging geopolitical times.”

Das Team „BankBros“ vom Emma-Herwegh-Gymnasium Remscheid hat das nationale Finale des Generation €uro Schüler Wettbewerbs (GESA) für sich entschieden. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler konnten sich erfolgreich gegen 72 Teams durchsetzen. Zum 14. Mal lud die Bundesbank die Finalisten des Wettbewerbs in die Zentrale nach Frankfurt ein, wo ihnen Präsident Joachim Nagel persönlich gratulierte.

The Governing Council of the ECB has shortlisted the motifs for the two possible themes for future euro banknotes: “European culture: shared cultural spaces” and “Rivers and birds: resilience in diversity”. The selected motifs include Ludwig van Beethoven, Marie Curie and Leonardo da Vinci. “Rivers and birds” included a kingfisher in a waterfall, a white stork flying over a river valley and a wallcreeper next to a mountain landscape. The ECB is expected to make the final decision on the designs of the new banknotes in 2026.
