This year, the Deutsche Bundesbank will be celebrating its 60th anniversary. The legislation which brought it into being, the Bundesbank Act (Gesetz über die Deutsche Bundesbank), was signed into law on 26 July 1957 by the Federal President.

Am 1. und 2. Juli 2017 öffnet die Deutsche Bundesbank an ihren beiden Frankfurter Standorten wieder die Pforten. "Wir können dieses Jahr auf 60 Jahre unabhängiger Geld- und Zentralbankpolitik zurückblicken und möchten dieses Jubiläum mit den Menschen der Region feiern", sagte Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann.

German external assets grew by a net €231 billion in 2016, closing the year at €1,709 billion. This increase was chiefly attributable to net capital exports, which were primarily a reflection of last year’s current account surplus.

In 2017, the Deutsche Bundesbank commissioned a comprehensive study on the history of central banking in Germany between the years 1924 and 1970. 

Germany’s net international investment position stood at €2,073 billion at the end of 2018, thus amounting to around 62% of nominal gross domestic product. The German net external asset position rose by €281 billion year-on-year. 

The Bundesbank recalls the achievements of its former President Hans Tietmeyer, who has just turned 85. In a conversation with publisher David Marsh, Hans Tietmeyer reviews past monetary policy decisions.

Around 1.4 million people celebrated the 25th anniversary of German reunification at a huge public festival from 2 to 4 October in Frankfurt. Thousands of people visited the exhibition organised by the Bundesbank and the City of Frankfurt to learn about German monetary union.
