Bundesbank strengthens cooperation with South America CIC-Newsletter – May 2026

Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Bundesbank and the Banco Central de Chile and between the Bundesbank and the Banco Central de la República Argentina were formally signed on 13 and 16 March, respectively. The ceremonies took place in Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires. Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz signed the first MoU with Rosanna Costa, Governor of the Banco Central de Chile, and the second MoU with Santiago Bausili, Governor of the Banco Central de la República Argentina.

Chile and Argentina join Brazil to make a total of three South American countries whose central banks have now concluded such an agreement with the Bundesbank. The signing of the MoUs provides a formal basis for the collaboration that has already existed for many years. The aim of the agreements is to further deepen cooperation, for example through participation in seminars, bilateral consultations and projects, and, where appropriate, through temporary staff exchanges.

The Banco Central de Chile recently showed particular interest in exchanging experiences on the topic of innovation in central banking, while the Banco Central de la República Argentina’s focus is on cash management. The Bundesbank looks forward to future collaboration and the joint projects that will result from these partnerships.
