Germany’s current account recorded a surplus of €11.8 billion in January 2025, down €9.1 billion on the previous month’s level. This was attributable to a lower surplus in the goods account and especially in invisible current transactions, which comprises services as well as primary and secondary income.

Der Bruttoabsatz am deutschen Rentenmarkt lag im Januar 2025 mit 155,0 Mrd € deutlich über dem Wert des Vormonats (82,3 Mrd €). Der Umlauf ausländischer Titel am deutschen Markt erhöhte sich um 24,7 Mrd €, sodass der Umlauf in- und ausländischer Schuldverschreibungen in Deutschland im Januar im Ergebnis um 54,0 Mrd € anstieg.

The Bank’s experts write that, in order for the freedom of choice between cash and digital means of payment to endure, infrastructure for the supply of cash must remain intact in future.
