Die internationale Rolle des Euro war im Jahr 2024 weitgehend unverändert. Nach wie vor konnte er sich als zweitwichtigste Währung weltweit behaupten. Gemessen an verschiedenen Indikatoren der internationalen Verwendung von Währungen ist der Anteil des Euro seit dem Einmarsch Russlands in die Ukraine nahezu stabil bei rund 19 % geblieben. 

Die Präsidentin der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB), Christine Lagarde, und der Gouverneur der People‘s Bank of China, Pan Gongsheng, unterzeichneten im Rahmen des Besuchs von Frau Lagarde in Beijing ein Memorandum of Understanding über die Zusammenarbeit im Bereich des Zentralbankwesens.

The ECB requires credit institutions to hold compulsory deposits on accounts with the national central banks: these are called “minimum” or “required” reserves. The amount of required reserves that each credit institution has to hold is determined by its reserve base multiplied by a minimum reserve ratio.
