Two years have been spent exploring the possible design and distribution of a digital euro. Now, the Governing Council of the ECB is moving to the next phase of the project. This will lay the foundations for a potential digital euro. It will involve, amongst other things, finalising the digital euro rulebook and selecting providers that could develop a digital euro platform and infrastructure. However, a decision on whether to actually issue a digital euro will be made at a later date. 

Kirstin Hubrich explains the basics of financial stability and of this year’s Financial Stability Review.

The German financial system has weathered the exceptionally strong rise in interest rates well overall and has proved stable over the past months, the Bundesbank writes in its Financial Stability Review 2024. Credit risk is now increasingly coming under the spotlight, however. The financial system is facing acute challenges due to geopolitical tensions and a weak economy. The economy is also undergoing transformation, said Bundesbank Executive Board member Michael Theurer. Our top priority must be a resilient financial system.

Der gewichtete Indikator der Kreditfinanzierungskosten für neue Kredite an Unternehmen stieg um 10 Basispunkte auf 5,09 % und der entsprechende Indikator für neue Wohnungsbaukredite an private Haushalte um 4 Basispunkte auf 3,89 %; maßgeblich hierfür war in beiden Fällen der
Zinseffekt.

Die aggregierte Summe der Aktiva der Kreditinstitute mit Sitz in der EU verringerte sich von 31,89 Billionen € im Juni 2022 auf 31,32 Billionen € im Juni 2023. Dies entspricht einem Rückgang um 1,80 %.
