Although central bank reserves have gone up sharply in the past few years, broader money has grown only moderately. In the April issue of the Monthly Report, the Bundesbank's authors look at the role of banks, non-banks and central banks in the money creation process and also explain how non-standard monetary policy measures impact on money growth.

At the end of the first quarter of 2017, households' financial assets amounted to €5,676 billion; this figure was up markedly, by just over €84 billion (1.5%), from the fourth quarter of 2016. The rise was predominantly attributable to the transaction-based acquisition of financial assets, which, at roughly €60 billion, was higher than in the preceding quarters.

Im Mai 2017 lag das Emissionsvolumen am deutschen Rentenmarkt mit einem Bruttoabsatz von 93,8 Mrd € knapp unter dem Wert des Vormonats (94,1 Mrd €). Nach Abzug der deutlich gesunkenen Tilgungen und unter Berücksichtigung der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten wurden inländische Schuldverschreibungen für netto 28,5 Mrd € begeben.

Die deutsche Leistungsbilanz verzeichnete im Mai 2017 einen Überschuss von 17,3 Mrd €. Das Ergebnis lag um 2,4 Mrd € über dem Niveau des Vormonats.
