President Jens Weidmann pointed out that the experts were forecasting only a slow recovery when measured against the sudden slump experienced: “Economic activity is expected to return to its pre-crisis level only towards the end of 2022,” he noted. Nevertheless, he is not anticipating any major long-term harm for the economy’s potential output, albeit based on the assumption that a medical solution to combat the pandemic will be available in the middle of next year.

Von Konstanz bis nach Sylt, von Aachen bis nach Görlitz: Mit einem Ausstellungstruck besucht die Bundesbank von April bis Ende Oktober 90 Städte und Gemeinden in Deutschland. Mit der Mitmachausstellung möchte die Bundesbank über ihre Aufgaben informieren und mit den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern vor Ort ins Gespräch kommen. Am 7. April hat Vorstandsmitglied Burkhard Balz die Ausstellung  in Frankfurt am Main eröffnet. Bei der Eröffnung sprach auch der hessische Finanzminister Michael Boddenberg.

Im ersten Halbjahr 2024 erhöhte sich die Gesamtzahl bargeldloser Zahlungsvorgänge im Euroraum um 7,4 % auf 72,1 Milliarden im Vergleich zum ersten Halbjahr 2023; der Gesamtwert stieg unterdessen um 1,9 % auf 113,5 Bio. €.

The continual observation of price stability is based on analyses of price statistics. Particular attention is usually paid to the German Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) and the national Consumer Price Index (CPI), which are both published by the Federal Statistical Office and often used throughout the EU and as inflation measures.

The finance ministers of the federal states met in Frankfurt am Main for a change. And for a very particular reason: this marked the 1,000th meeting of the Bundesrat’s Finance Committee. The venue was the same building where, on 25 and 26 September 1946, the “German Financial Council” convened for the first time: under the roof of what was to become the Bank deutscher Länder, the Bundesbank’s predecessor institution. 

Der EZB-Rat hat heute beschlossen, die drei Leitzinssätze der EZB um jeweils 25 Basispunkte zu senken. Der Beschluss zur Senkung des Zinssatzes für die Einlagefazilität – der Zinssatz, mit dem der EZB-Rat den geldpolitischen Kurs steuert – spiegelt die aktualisierte Beurteilung der Inflationsaussichten, der Dynamik der zugrunde liegenden Inflation und der Stärke der geldpolitischen Transmission durch den EZB-Rat wider.
