Im September 2016 wies die Leistungsbilanz des Euro-Währungsgebiets einen Überschuss von 25,3 Mrd € auf. In der Kapitalbilanz waren bei den Direktinvestitionen und Wertpapieranlagen zusammengenommen ein Nettoerwerb an Forderungen in Höhe von 32 Mrd € und ein Nettoabbau von Verbindlichkeiten im Umfang von 22 Mrd € zu verzeichnen.

Aus der Sicht von Bundesbank-Vizepräsidentin Claudia Buch gibt es in einigen deutschen Metropolen Überbewertungen von Wohnimmobilien in einer Größenordnung von bis zu 20 Prozent. Investoren sollten aber vorsichtig sein, wenn sie Preis- und Zinsentwicklungen in die Zukunft fortschreiben, sagte Buch in einem Interview mit der Wochenzeitung "Die Zeit".

In its recently unveiled Financial Stability Review 2016, the Bundesbank states that it sees potential risks to the stability of the German financial system in the persistently low interest rates and muted global economic growth.

Persistently low interest rates and muted growth in the real economy are encouraging the build-up of risks to financial stability. "In the current macroeconomic setting, there is the danger that market participants might underestimate risks and fail to adequately take into account the possibility of asset prices falling and interest rates rising," said Claudia Buch.
