The outstanding amounts of assets and liabilities resulting from the Bundesbank's financial accounts can be presented in the form of financial balance sheets for the institutional sectors.

Stable money is a precious public good. It protects savers and income earners from the erosion of wealth while promoting growth and employment. The primary objective of monetary policy in the euro area is therefore to ensure price stability. The President of the Bundesbank is involved in making monetary policy decisions as a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. The Bundesbank is charged with implementing these decisions in Germany.

With the amending directive to the BRRD (Directive (EU) 2017/2399), the creditor hierarchy was harmonised by the EU legislator (the new creditor hierarchy).

Banking supervision in Germany is carried out by the Bundesbank in cooperation with the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority and the Federal Ministry of Finance as well as external auditors and audit offices of the banking associations.

The German government has decided to mint a €5 collectors’ coin entitled “Marmelade hoverfly”, to be issed at 13 June 2024.

The €5 collectors' coin with an turquoise plastic ring was issued in September 2020. It was minted on behalf of the German government and is the fourth in a five-part series, “Climate zones of the Earth” (2017-21).
