Pier Carlo Padoan est ministre de l'économie et des finances dans le gouvernement italien depuis février 2014. Après des études d'économie, il a fait de la recherche puis enseigné comme professeur à l'université La Sapienza à Rome. À côté de sa carrière universitaire, M. Padoan a travaillé pour diverses organisations internationales. De 2001 à 2005, il faisait partie du conseil d’administration du Fonds monétaire international. De 2007 jusqu'à sa nomination dans le gouvernement italien, il était secrétaire général adjoint de l'Organisation de coopération et de développement économiques (OCDE), dont il était économiste en chef à partir de 2009. M. Padoan est né le 19 janvier 1950 à Rome.

Since 1 November 2015, Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann has chaired the BIS Board of Directors, which determines the strategic and policy direction of the BIS and supervises BIS management.

"While the Basel Committee's negotiations in Santiago de Chile over the past few days have brought the different positions even closer together, with a great many open questions being wrapped up, it was not possible to reach an agreement. We shall therefore continue to work towards bringing the negotiations to a conclusion by the beginning of January, when the Group of Governors and Heads of Supervision are scheduled to convene, because regulatory uncertainty can also impair the proper functioning of the banking sector.

A successful negotiating outcome should, first, further reinforce financial sector resilience, but it should, second, also be regionally balanced and not cause the Basel regime's risk-oriented approach to be eroded."
