I am confident that our financial system can mobilise the necessary financing, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said in a speech at the Adam Smith Business School in Glasgow, where he talked about the financing for the transition to a greenhouse gas-neutral economy. He also elaborated on what the potential financing mix to fund the transition might look like. Furthermore, Nagel emphasised the need for a strong banking system and improved access to capital market financing. 

The financial stability reviews produced by the Bundesbank and other central banks have become a well-established tool, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said at an event held by the Bundesbank in Frankfurt am Main to mark the 20th anniversary of the Financial Stability Review. At the event, Bundesbank Executive Board member Michael Theurer, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the ECB Claudia Buch, and representatives from supervisory authorities, academia and banking discussed the challenges facing financial stability. 

Am deutschen Rentenmarkt war die Emissionstätigkeit im Dezember 2024 – wie häufig zum Ende eines Jahres – schwächer als im Vormonat. Insgesamt wurden inländische Schuldverschreibungen für 81,5 Mrd € emittiert, verglichen mit 108,2 Mrd € im November. Nach Abzug der gegenüber dem Vormonat höheren Tilgungen und unter Berücksichtigung der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten verringerte sich der Umlauf heimischer Rentenwerte um 7,0 Mrd €. Daneben sank der Umlauf ausländischer Schuldverschreibungen in Deutschland im Dezember um 0,6 Mrd €, sodass im Ergebnis 7,6 Mrd € an die Anleger zurückflossen.

Germany’s current account recorded a surplus of €24.0 billion in December 2024, up €2.1 billion on the previous month’s level. The surplus in the goods account decreased sharply, but the surplus in invisible current transactions, which comprise services as well as primary and secondary income, increased more strongly.
