The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) has published two reports which lay out specific measures to assess climate vulnerabilities. "This provides us with concrete tools to prepare for the risks created by climate change," Bundesbank Executive Board member Sabine Mauderer and Sarah Breeden from Bank of England write.

Banks have become more resilient since the global financial crisis and have stronger loss-absorbing capacity. Also, there are better options for dealing with banks in distress. These are the findings made by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in a consultation report on the evaluation of too-big-to-fail (TBTF) reforms. The report also identifies gaps that still need to be addressed.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) sees central banks as playing a key role in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. “Central banks reacted swiftly and forcefully, preventing firms and households from being further burdened by a financial collapse by stabilising the financial system and supporting credit flows,” said Agustín Carstens, General Manager of the BIS, at the report’s presentation. 

The turn of the year saw Executive Board member Sabine Mauderer take office as Chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), a global group of central banks and supervisory authorities committed to forging a more sustainable financial system.

The architectural design competition for the planned new builds on the campus of the Bundesbank’s Frankfurt Central Office has come to a close. A jury of 13, made up of renowned architects and representatives from the Bundesbank and the City of Frankfurt am Main, concluded two days of deliberations by selecting six prize winners and awarding two honourable mentions out of a total of 29 designs entered in the competition.

Die Jahreswachstumsrate der weit gefassten Geldmenge M3 stieg im Mai 2020 auf 8,9 %, verglichen mit 8,2 % im April (korrigiert von 8,3 %). Die Jahreswachstumsrate des enger gefassten Geldmengenaggregats M1, das den Bargeldumlauf und die täglich fälligen Einlagen enthält, erhöhte sich im Berichtsmonat auf 12,5 % nach 11,9 % im April.

Die Summe der Aktiva der Kreditinstitute mit Sitz in der EU stieg gegenüber dem Vorjahr um 4,0 % von 32,7 Billionen € im Dezember 2018 auf 34,0 Billionen € im Dezember 2019. Die Quote notleidender Kredite  der Kreditinstitute in der EU sank im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 0,42 Prozentpunkte und belief sich im Dezember 2019 auf 2,8 %.
 

Als Reaktion auf die Corona-Krise (Covid-19) hat der EZB-Rat eine neue vorsorgliche Liquiditätslinie (Backstop-Fazilität) eingerichtet, um nicht zum Euroraum gehörenden Zentralbanken vorsorgliche Repo-Linien in Euro zur Verfügung zu stellen.
