The March 2014 edition of the Monthly Report describes the shadow banking system in the euro area and its monetary policy implications. In addition, the German balance of payments in 2013 is reconsidered and it comments on the vulnerability to crises of the manufacturing enterprises in Germany.

The November 2013 Monthly Report comments on the economic situation in Germany in autumn 2013.

In the first half of 2020, the global coronavirus pandemic led to the most severe economic slump in Germany in decades. Governments and central banks around the world have taken extensive measures to stabilise the economy as well as labour and financial markets.

From a legal perspective, TARGET2 consists of a number of TARGET2 component systems. Based on the Eurosystem’s approach, and in an attempt to standardise the legal requirements for participation as far as possible, the “Terms and conditions for a PM account” are, however, a literal copy of the “Harmonised conditions for the opening and operation of a PM account in TARGET2”, which were adopted within the framework of the TARGET2 Guideline. The Bundesbank simply made the necessary editorial changes (such as inserting the terms “Bundesbank” and “TARGET2-Bundesbank”, for example) and deleted a minimal amount of provisions which were not relevant to TARGET2-Bundesbank.

In 2019, the Bundesbank achieved a net profit of 5.8 billion euros. After adjustment of the reserves, the net profit is 5.9 billion euros, the highest net profit since 2008, which the Bundesbank transferred in full to the Federal Ministry of Finance.
