Speaking at an event to mark the Bundesbank's 60th anniversary, Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann underscored the institution's importance for the stability culture in Germany and Europe. "Over the last 60 years, the Bundesbank has not been afraid to ruffle a few feathers if it sees stability risks," he said in Stuttgart. That had not damaged its reputation among the general public.

In the 1980s and 1990s, many countries began to approximate the Bundesbank model, making their central banks more independent and focusing on the goal of price stability. The highlight of these developments was undoubtedly the foundation of the European Central Bank (ECB), which was modelled on the Bundesbank.

Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann hat eine solide Haushaltspolitik der Euro-Länder angemahnt. Das Geldmuseum der Deutschen Bundesbank begleitet das Jubiläumsjahr mit der Sonderausstellung "Wächter der Währung – 60 Jahre Bundesbank im Spiegel der Medien". Die Ausstellung läuft bis zum 15. August 2017.

As in previous years, the Bundesbank will be taking part in this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, which will be held from 11 to 15 October. The Bundesbank is organising a programme for children, coin collectors and banknote buffs, and this year, there will be something for film fans, too.
