Gemessen am nominalen Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) hat das deutsche Netto-Auslandsvermögen von Anfang 2007 bis Ende 2017 von knapp 20% auf rund 60% zugelegt. Den höchsten Vermögenszuwachs verzeichneten die Wirtschaftsunternehmen und Privatpersonen. Dabei kam den Investitionen in Wertpapieren eine hohe Bedeutung zu. "Erstmals seit über 30 Jahren halten Inländer mehr ausländische Wertpapiere in ihren Depots als Ausländer Wertpapiere inländischer Emittenten", heißt es im Monatsbericht April 2018.
