Germany’s current account recorded a surplus of €18.9 billion in November 2021, up €1.3 billion on the previous month’s level. The surplus in the goods account declined slightly, but the surplus in invisible current transactions, which comprise services as well as primary and secondary income, increased more strongly. 

“Stability is the Bundesbank’s mission and its core,” Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel emphasised in his inaugural speech at the change of office ceremony in Frankfurt am Main. “The German public expect, and rightly so, that the Bundesbank will make its voice heard as an advocate for a culture of stability. I can reassure them that it will continue to do so,” he said. At the same time, the Bundesbank should rise to the challenges that change brings and harness the opportunities it offers.

Die Bilanzsumme der Deutschen Bundesbank ist in der Corona-Pandemie erheblich gewachsen. Diese Ausweitung ist Ausdruck der starken geldpolitischen Unterstützung in der Krise und dürfte die Bilanz auf absehbare Zeit maßgeblich beeinflussen. Insofern ist die Bilanz einer Notenbank nicht zuletzt auch Spiegelbild ihrer geldpolitischen Aktivitäten.

Das Emissionsvolumen am deutschen Rentenmarkt belief sich im November 2021 auf brutto 135,0 Mrd € (Vormonat: 134,9 Mrd €). Nach Abzug der im Vergleich zum Vormonat deutlich geringeren Tilgungen und unter Berücksichtigung der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten stieg der Umlauf heimischer Rentenwerte um 33,3 Mrd €.
