General Type of rate until the end of 1994: commercial banks' free market rate. A parallel market exists alongside the commercial banks' foreign exchange market. However, we do not have any details about these rates or information on how they are used. Listed against the euro as of 1999, see BBEX3:A:CLP:EUR:CA:AC:A04.
Methodology Calculated on the basis of reporting date rates (generally one rate per week). * We only have data on exchange rates for the Deutsche Mark in Chile until 9 August 1996. From 12 August 1996, the quoted figures are comparable rates calculated on the basis of the buying and selling rates for the US dollar in Chile in conjunction with the respective official quotation on the Frankfurt exchange for US dollar.

Comment on 1984 With effect from 18 September 1984, the exchange rates were adjusted sharply. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 13 September 1984: DEM 1 = CLP 30.25 / 31.92 20 September 1984: DEM 1 = CLP 36.24 / 38.46 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Chilean peso depreciated by 16.8% (calculated on the basis of the middle rates).
