General Type of rate until the end of 1994: commercial banks' free market rate. A parallel market exists alongside the commercial banks' foreign exchange market. Methodology * We only have data on exchange rates for the Deutsche Mark in Chile until July 1996. From August 1996, the quoted figures are comparable rates calculated on the basis of the buying and selling rates for the US dollar in Chile in conjunction with the respective official quotation on the Frankfurt exchange for US dollar. Calculated on the basis of the buying and selling rates.

Comment on 1984-09 With effect from 18 September 1984, the exchange rates were adjusted sharply. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 13 September 1984: DEM 1 = CLP 30.25 / 31.92 20 September 1984: DEM 1 = CLP 36.24 / 38.46 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Chilean peso depreciated by 16.8% (calculated on the basis of the middle rates).
