General From 8 August 1992, alongside the official exchange rate, a so-called swap market rate was also in place; however, we do not have any details about these rates or information on how they were used. On 1 January 1994, the exchange rate system was unified on the basis of the swap market rate. Listed against the euro as of January 1999, see BBEX3:A:CNY:EUR:CA:AC:A04 (exchange rates in China) and as of 2000 BBEX3:A:CNY:EUR:BB:AC:A04 (euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank).
Methodology Calculated on the basis of daily rates. From 1991 to 1993, calculated on the basis of mid-month and month-end rates.

Comment on 1995 Average from April to December 1995. On 1 January 1994, the Chinese renminbi was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 31 December 1993: DEM 1 = CNY 3.3491 / 3.3659 1 January 1994: DEM 1 = CNY 4.9927 / 5.0177 On the basis of these exchange rates, the Chinese renminbi depreciated by 32.9%.
Comment on 1994 From April 1994 until March 1995, we were only provided the mid-market rates.
Comment on 1989 On 16 December 1989, the Chinese renminbi was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 15 December 1989: DEM 1 = CNY 2.1467 / 2.1575 16 December 1989: DEM 1 = CNY 2.7417 / 2.7555 On the basis of these exchange rates, the Chinese renminbi depreciated by 21.7%.
Comment on 1986 On 5 July 1986, the Chinese renminbi was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 4 July 1986: DEM 1 = CNY 1.4668 / 1.4742 5 July 1986: DEM 1 = CNY 1.7012 / 1.7098 On the basis of these exchange rates, the Chinese renminbi depreciated by 13.8%.
