General	Since 17 April 1997 member state of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA = Union Économique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine). With effect from 2 May 1997, a currency conversion took place at the rate of 65 Guinea-Bissau pesos (GWP) = 1 CFA franc (XOF). The CFA franc has been the sole legal tender since 1 August 1997 (fixed exchange rate to the French franc: FRF 1 = XOF 100). Exchange rates as of January 1999, see BBEX3:M:XOF:USD:CA:AC:A01.
