General With effect from 13 December 1999, a currency changeover took place at the ratio of 1,000,000 readjusted kwanza (AOR) = 1 kwanza (AOA). Since April 2020, only middle rates have been published; see BBEX3:A:AOA:USD:CA:AC:A04.

Comment on 2019 In October, the kwanza was devalued substantially after exchange rate arrangements were loosened further. Calculated using the exchange rates from the end of September and the end of October 2019, the kwanza depreciated by 23.9% against the US dollar.
Comment on 2018 On 4 January 2018, the Banco Nacional de Angola decided to adopt a more flexible exchange rate regime. Subsequently, the Angolan kwanza has undergone several stages of devaluation. Calculated using the exchange rates at end-December 2017 and at end-January 2018, the Angolan kwanza experienced a devaluation of 20.0% against the US dollar (on average).
Comment on 2016 With effect from 4 January 2016, the exchange rates were adjusted more sharply. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying rate/selling rate) for this date: USD 1 = AOA 154.838 / 156.386 On the basis of the exchange rates at the end of December 2015 and the above-mentioned rates, the kwanza experienced a devaluation of 13.0% against the US dollar.
