General From 18 February 1991 until 10 November 1991, a market exchange rate existed alongside the official rate which was only quoted against the US dollar. During this time, only certain public sector transactions were settled at the official rate. Listed against the euro as of 1 January 1999, see BBEX3:A:ROL:EUR:BB:AC:A04 (euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank).

Comment on 1991 On 1 April 1991, the Romanian leu was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates: 29 March 1991: DEM 1 = ROL 22.42 1 April 1991: DEM 1 = ROL 35.25 Calculated devaluation: 36.4%. With effect from 11 November 1991, the multiple exchange rate system was standardised. We recorded the following official exchange rates: 10 November 1991: DEM 1 = ROL 35.48 11 November 1991: DEM 1 = ROL 110.12 Calculated devaluation: 67.8%.
