Martin Pontzen Senior Advisor for Cross-departmental Central Bank Issues

Martin Pontzen is responsible for cross-departmental topics including issues related to the development of financial markets, central bank museums and currency reserve management.

Over 30 years, he has served in numerous positions at the Deutsche Bundesbank gaining broad-based experience in central banking. For four years, he served as First Secretary at the German Embassy in Moscow. Over the years, Martin Pontzen has conducted numerous projects in and outside Germany, as short-term expert and leader of EU Twinning Projects, TACIS, GIZ, and IMF. In recent years, he has been a member of the CGFS Working Group “Establishing viable capital markets” (BIS).

He studied in Frankfurt and Vienna, majoring in economics, business administration, politics and history. He wrote his PhD degree at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main. In addition to having lectured at different universities and technical colleges both locally and internationally, he has authored as well as co-authored several articles and books.
