Multiple team leaders (m/f/d) with a focus on 'Wholesale-CBDC
The introduction of central bank digital currency is one of the Eurosystem’s most important initiatives. The Bundesbank is playing a key role in developing the central bank money of the future. We are currently looking for three team leaders to strengthen our Wholesale CBDC division in the Directorate General Digital Euro (D€). The teams will each consist of approximately 5 to 10 interdisciplinary experts and will work closely with national and international partner institutions, supervisory authorities and market participants.

Depending on the team’s focus, you will have the following tasks:
Exploration Team
- Lead and steer exploratory projects in the field of token-based central bank money and the settlement of DLT-based transactions.
- Design proofs of concept (PoC) and feasibility studies with market participants.
- Analyse technological, economic and regulatory issues in the context of innovative financial market infrastructures.
- Prepare the findings in a targeted manner to shape opinion within the Bundesbank and as an input for European decision-making processes.
Long-term Solution Team
- Lead the development of strategic objectives and technical solutions for a future European financial market infrastructure, taking into account innovative technologies (tokenisation).
- Assess the scalability, interoperability, and efficiency of future infrastructure approaches.
- Proactively contribute to the processes in the Eurosystem that are involved in designing this objective.
- Develop solid foundations for decision-making by the Bundesbank's senior management.
Technology Team
- Act as the contact person for all technical issues relating to[F31] wCBDC (technological infrastructure, target architecture, design, etc.)
- Manage the development process from requirements analysis and architecture design through to integration, verification and validation in cooperation with European partners in the Eurosystem.
- Identify possible global software services within the Bundesbank components.
- Design the system architecture for wCBDC taking into account possible alternatives, including conceptualising infrastructure, documentation and IT security.
In each of the three roles, you would be responsible for:
- Technical and disciplinary management of your team.
- Management of complex projects with high relevance for the Bundesbank and the Eurosystem.
- Cooperation with business units such as IT, Legal Services and Payments as well as European partner institutions.

Unique assets: your skills and qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a field relevant to the position (e.g. information technology, mathematics, economics, law); completed doctoral degree desirable
- At least three years of relevant professional experience – e.g. in relation to digitalisation in the financial sector and financial market infrastructures, including strategic monetary policy issues
- Strong leadership skills (proven by initial management experience or appropriate training/certificates); and ideally experience in setting up teams
- Experience in exploratory research and proofs of concept (PoC) is an advantage
- Knowledge of new technologies (DLT/blockchain/tokenisation/smart contracts) as well as international payments, securities settlement and financial market infrastructure
- Additional requirements for the Technology Team: good knowledge of IT architecture (fundamentals, frameworks, standards) as well as expertise in modelling and integrating system architectures, data structures, interfaces to infrastructure and applications
- Knowledge of agile working methods (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban)
- Negotiation skills and powers of persuasion
- Ability to work well in a team
- Very good communication skills in German and English

Remuneration and prospects
Remuneration in line with the pay grade 14 of the wage agreement for the public sector (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD) plus bank allowance, future-oriented public sector job offering reliable working conditions, international working environment, varied tasks, opportunity to gain civil servant status or maintain existing civil servant status (up to A15), chance to participate in national and international exchanges
