Der Design-Wettbewerb für unsere neuen Euro-Banknoten startet heute! Vom 15. Juli bis 18. August 2025 sind alle Designschaffende mit Wohnsitz in der Europäischen Union eingeladen, sich zu bewerben. Der EZB-Rat wird voraussichtlich Ende 2026 über das endgültige Design entscheiden. Zuvor wird er jedoch in einer öffentlichen Befragung die Meinung der Bürger einholen.

International investment position
In the first quarter of 2025, the German net international investment position (i.i.p.) decreased by €51 billion to €3.4 trillion; that equates to 79 % of gross domestic product (GDP). German claims on non-residents now stand at €13.8 trillion. This compares to German liabilities amounting to €10.3 trillion.

What’s behind the sustained decline in German export market shares?

German export market shares have been contracting since 2017, and especially since 2021. According to the latest Monthly Report, this is largely due to a deterioration in the competitiveness of the German economy. More than three-quarters of the losses in market shares between 2021 and 2023 were the result of supply-side constraints. In this issue, the authors look at what is behind the decline in German export market shares and derive possible structural reforms.
