Russia’s invasion of Ukraine triggered an energy crisis in 2022 that posed major challenges to the German economy and sparked broad debate on the economic ramifications of the marked rise in natural gas prices. In a new study, we examine the causes and consequences of this crisis and show how supply shocks and a surge in demand for natural gas storage impacted on natural gas prices and industrial production in Germany.

German banks’ profitability in 2019 adversely impacted by one-off effect

German banks’ profitability deteriorated further in 2019. However, this is due primarily to strategic restructuring at one big bank, the Bundesbank’s economists note in the latest issue of the Monthly Report, with the resulting negative one-off effect overshadowing the growth in profit for the financial year observed for all other categories of banks.

Anleihen, deren Kupons an nachhaltigkeitsbezogene Leistungsziele gebunden sind, werden als notenbankfähige Sicherheiten zugelassen. Zulässigkeit auch im Rahmen des Programms zum Ankauf von Vermögenswerten (APP) und des Pandemie-Notfallankaufprogramms (PEPP) möglich, sofern die programmspezifischen Zulässigkeitskriterien erfüllt werden. Beschluss gilt ab dem 1. Januar 2021.
