Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann hat die fortgesetzte Vergabe von Notfall-Liquiditätshilfen an griechische Banken kritisiert. Hier bestünden offenkundige Bedenken im Hinblick auf das Verbot der monetären Staatsfinanzierung, sagte er bei einer Veranstaltung in Frankfurt. Für den Erfolg des Euroraums sei aber der Respekt vor seinen Grundprinzipien unverzichtbar, so Weidmann.

The virtual conference “Future of Payments in Europe” – the centrepiece of our virtual event series –discussed different perspectives on the latest developments in European payments, most importantly the Retail Payments Strategy of the European Commission, the European Payments Initiative and the potential role of a digital euro in the payments landscape. 

The March 2020 Monthly Report analyses Germany’s balance of payments for 2019 and outlines the statistical data on households’ digital purchases that are contained in the balance of payments. It also includes an article on the challenges ahead posed by new reference interest rates using the implementation of the €STR in the euro area as an example.
