According to the current issue of the Bundesbank’s Monthly Report, economic output is likely to decline somewhat in the current quarter and to shrink significantly in the final quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023. The economists put this largely down to the extremely tight energy supply situation.

”, offered a variety of activities for visitors, including a discovery tour around the Bank’s Regional Office in Frankfurt, along with the chance to lift a gold bar, attend a variety of topical talks and meet Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel in person. -

Inflation expectations and reality: implications for the last mile of disinflation Bundesbank Invited Speakers Series
Households’ expectations for inflation often deviate from the officially recorded inflation rates. As part of the Bundesbank Invited Speakers Series, Michael Weber, Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, expressed his view that the public’s perceptions are chiefly shaped by their shopping experiences or their family and friends rather than by classic media. He went on to discuss with Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel what this means for central bank communication and monetary policy. The panel was moderated by Falko Fecht, Head of the Bundesbank’s Research Centre.

This year’s Carl Menger Prize for Economics has been awarded to economist Ricardo Reis. A lecturer and researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Ricardo Reis ranks among Europe’s most respected macroeconomists. The Carl Menger Prize has been jointly awarded by the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Swiss National Bank since 2014.

Der Bruttoabsatz am deutschen Rentenmarkt lag im Juli 2022 mit 148,7 Mrd € über dem Wert des Vormonats (137,2 Mrd €). Nach Berücksichtigung gestiegener Tilgungen und der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten nahm der Umlauf inländischer Rentenpapiere um 13,0 Mrd € ab (Juni: Nettoemissionen in Höhe von 12,7 Mrd €).

German balance of payments in July 2022
Germany’s current account posted a surplus of €5.0 billion in July 2022, down €9.3 billion on the previous month’s level. This was primarily caused by the shift into a deficit in invisible current transactions, which comprise services as well as primary and secondary income. There was also a smaller surplus in goods trading.
