Tasks of the Bundesbank in the field of statistics

The monetary, financial and foreign trade statistics compiled within the framework of the Bundesbank's statutory mandate as well as the comprehensive indicator sets and seasonally adjusted economic data comprise a broad range of economic data prepared in a user-oriented manner. This multi-layered information system forms the central empirical basis, in particular for the monetary policy decision-making process and macroeconomic and macroprudential analyses.

At the national level, the Bundesbank cooperates with the Federal Statistical Office to fulfil its statistical tasks. This long-standing cooperation was laid down in more formalised terms for the first time in 2014, when the institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding to place their collaboration on a firm footing. The Memorandum is regularly updated to take into account changes arising from new responsibilities and data requirements. The most recent update to the Memorandum of Understanding occurred in 2021.
