Bundesbank welcomes new Executive Board members

Sabine Mauderer and Burkhard Balz took up office as members of the Executive Board of the Bundesbank on 1 September. Ms. Mauderer and Mr. Balz, both lawyers by training, are succeeding Carl-Ludwig Thiele and Andreas Dombret, who stepped down from the Executive Board at the end of April 2018.

Der zusammengesetzte Indikator der Kreditfinanzierungskosten für neue Kredite an Unternehmen verringerte sich im Juli 2018 gegenüber dem Vormonat um 4 Basispunkte auf 1,64 %. Der zusammengesetzte Indikator der Kreditfinanzierungskosten für neue Wohnungsbaukredite an private Haushalte blieb im Juli mit 1,81 % weitgehend unverändert. Der zusammengesetzte Zinssatz für neue Einlagen von Unternehmen im Euroraum wies im Berichtsmonat mit 0,11 % keinerlei Veränderung auf, während jener für neue Einlagen privater Haushalte mit 0,35 % im Wesentlichen konstant blieb.

Role of the Bundesbank in financial and monetary stability
The Bundesbank, as Germany's central bank, has an inherent interest in a stable financial and monetary system. This not only provides a major foundation for sustainable economic growth but is also a precondition for the effective implementation of monetary policy. The Financial Stability Act (Finanzstabilitätsgesetz), which entered into force in 2013, regulates the oversight and safeguarding of financial stability in Germany, forms the legal basis for the German Financial Stability Committee (G-FSC) and gives the Bundesbank crucial tasks in this committee. Moreover, the Bundesbank performs key tasks arising from the German IMF Act as part of discharging the duties and obligations of Germany's membership of the International Monetary Fund, with monetary stability as its objective.
