The European Central Bank and the national central banks of the Eurosystem began rolling out a second series of euro banknotes in May 2013. For a time, banknotes from both series will be circulating side by side. The Eurosystem will give advance notice of the date from which banknotes from the first series will cease to be legal tender. But even after that date, the old €50 notes won't be worthless. The Deutsche Bundesbank will exchange them for new Europa series notes indefinitely.
