On 10 October 2012, the Deutsche Bundesbank held a cash symposium for the first time. The President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Dr Jens Weidmann, and Executive Board member Carl-Ludwig Thiele opened the event. Talks and speeches were also held by senior representatives of the banking industry and the public sector. The podium discussion was moderated by Holger Steltzner from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

The symposium took place at the "Marriott" hotel in Frankfurt.
