Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 680/2014 laying down implementing technical standards with regard to supervisory reporting of institutions was brought into line in 2020 with regard to the liquidity coverage requirement for credit institutions.

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision was founded in 1974 and is the global standard-setting body for banking regulation. It comprises high-ranking representatives from national central banks and supervisory authorities.

With a view to the future, a pan-European deposit insurance scheme is envisaged. The European Commission's proposals foresee the gradual implementation of a system of comprehensive insurance by 2024, under which bank customers' savings would be covered by a European fund in the event of a bank insolvency.
