French economist Nicolas Véron and Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel call for the banking union to be completed. Writing in Politico Magazine, they argue that the issues of crisis management, deposit insurance and banks’ sovereign exposures are intertwined. 

The current decade could mark a turning point in the international division of labour. Die Leistungsbilanz wies im August 2024 einen Überschuss von 31 Mrd. € auf (nach 41 Mrd. € im Vormonat). In den zwölf Monaten bis August 2024 verzeichnete die Leistungsbilanz einen Überschuss von 408 Mrd. € (2,8 % des Euroraum-BIP), verglichen mit einem Überschuss von 138 Mrd. € (1,0 % des Euroraum-BIP) ein Jahr zuvor. In der Kapitalbilanz ergaben sich in den zwölf Monaten bis August 2024 Nettokäufe gebietsfremder Wertpapiere durch Ansässige im Euroraum von insgesamt 510 Mrd. € sowie Nettokäufe von Wertpapieren aus dem Euroraum durch Gebietsfremde im Umfang von insgesamt 718 Mrd. €.

Erwartungen zur Inflation im Jahr 2024 bei 2,4 % sowie in den Jahren 2025 und 2026 bei jeweils 1,9 % (Werte stabil, lediglich für 2025 um 0,1 Prozentpunkte nach unten revidiert); längerfristige Inflationserwartungen (für 2029) weiterhin bei 2,0 %

Die Kreditbedingungen wurden in der Zeit von Juni bis August 2024 insgesamt etwas gelockert. Während die preislichen Konditionen stärker als erwartet gelockert wurden, blieben die nichtpreislichen Konditionen den Erwartungen entsprechend unverändert.

Der EZB-Rat hat heute beschlossen, die drei Leitzinssätze der EZB um jeweils 25 Basispunkte zu senken. Insbesondere der Beschluss zur Senkung des Zinssatzes für die Einlagefazilität – der Zinssatz, mit dem wir den geldpolitischen Kurs steuern – spiegelt unsere aktualisierte Beurteilung der Inflationsaussichten, die Dynamik der zugrunde liegenden Inflation und die Stärke der geldpolitischen Transmission wider.

Der EZB-Rat hat heute beschlossen, die drei Leitzinssätze der EZB um jeweils 25 Basispunkte zu senken. 

A joint initiative by companies and institutions based in and around Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel – the district surrounding its central railway station – intends to help improve the difficult situation in the area. The Single Resolution Mechanism is the second pillar of the banking union and complements the Single Supervisory Mechanism. It is designed to ensure an orderly resolution of banks, including across borders, in the member states of the banking union in order to avoid substantial negative repercussions for financial stability, the real economy and public finances.

For the first time in nearly three years, the German banks responding to the Bank Lending Survey (BLS) did not tighten their credit standards for loans to enterprises further in the third quarter of 2024, but eased them marginally instead. On the other hand, they once again tightened their credit standards for loans to households for house purchase and for consumer credit and other lending to households For the fourth quarter, banks are planning to tighten their credit standards for loans to enterprises again, partly owing to pessimistic market and economic expectations.
