Am 23. März 2022 genehmigte der EZB-Rat den Jahresbericht 2021 der EZB. Der Bericht wird dem Ausschuss für Wirtschaft und Währung des Europäischen Parlaments vorgelegt und am 28. April 2022 in 22 Amtssprachen der EU auf der Website der EZB veröffentlicht.

Die Jahreswachstumsrate der weit gefassten Geldmenge M3 lag im Februar 2022 bei 6,3 % nach 6,4 % im Januar 2022. 

Die Europäische Zentralbank hat hinsichtlich der Entscheidung der RCB Bank Ltd., ihre Bankgeschäfte freiwillig nach und nach einzustellen, die folgenden Beschlüsse gefasst. Mit ihrem Vorhaben, das auch die vollständige Auszahlung aller Einleger umfasst, reagiert die RCB Bank auf die Auswirkungen der geopolitischen Risiken auf ihre Bankgeschäfte seit dem Einmarsch Russlands in die Ukraine.

Der Rat der Europäischen Zentralbank hat beschlossen, die im April 2020 aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie (Covid-19) befristet eingeführten Maßnahmen zur Lockerung der Kriterien für Sicherheiten schrittweise auslaufen zu lassen. 

Die Gesamtaktiva der Pensionseinrichtungen im Euro-Wahrungsgebiet stiegen im vierten Quartal 2021 auf 3 347 Mrd €, verglichen mit 3 252 Mrd € im dritten Jahresviertel. Investmentfondsanteile machten im Berichtsquartal 46,1 % der Gesamtaktiva der Pensionseinrichtungen aus. Die zweitgrößte Kategorie der Bestände bildeten die Schuldverschreibungen mit einem Anteil von 27,2 %, gefolgt von Aktien, sonstigen Dividendenwerten und Beteiligungen mit 10,8 %.

Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel has warned of persistently high inflation. “Even before the war against Ukraine, the inflation rate was very high. [...] Given the surge in energy prices on account of the war, consumer price inflation is likely to pick up again substantially, particularly in the near term,” Mr Nagel said in a speech delivered at a change of office ceremony in Hanover. As members of the ECB Governing Council, he remarked, we must now ensure that the strong inflation does not become entrenched and does not lead to excessively high inflation in the medium term.

Die Leistungsbilanz wies im Januar 2022 einen Überschuss von 23 Mrd € auf und blieb damit gegenüber dem Vormonat unverändert.

The costs of payment methods for consumers are difficult to determine, not recorded in a harmonised manner on an international level and consequently vary significantly from country to country. For this reason, a separate study is necessary for Germany. As part of a representative survey conducted in 2023, households were asked about the costs they incurred when using various means of payment.

“The impact of Russia’s attack on Ukraine is likely to place a noticeable strain on economic activity in Germany from March,” the Bundesbank writes in its Monthly Report. Energy commodity prices have surged which will probably put a damper on household consumption and the production of energy-intensive industries. Together with the looming disruptions to foreign trade and supply chains and the heightened uncertainty, the consequences of the war are likely to slow the economic recovery originally expected by a significant degree.

2021 saw Germany’s current account surplus rise by €26½ billion to €265½ billion. The balance grew by ½ percentage point to 7½% of gross domestic product. The ratio thus more or less returned to its pre-pandemic level, after the short-lived decline in the previous year.
