    The German banks responding to the Bank Lending Survey (BLS) barely tightened their credit standards for loans to enterprises any further in the second quarter of 2024. They slightly tightened their credit standards for loans to households for house purchase and for consumer credit and other lending to households. Overall, the adjustments were somewhat less than had been planned in the previous quarter.

    Energy prices skyrocketed and the cost of groceries went up significantly: life suddenly became more expensive in many places starting in early 2021. In the current issue of the Monthly Report, the Bundesbank’s economists examine what was behind these price increases, why inflation has since eased again and what role was played by central banks. They also reveal why the path back to price stability has posed no major disruptions to the real economy so far.

We also check the authenticity of payment cards, securities, traveller's cheques and gold and silver coins which are legal tender.     Germany’s current account recorded a surplus of €18.5 billion in May 2024, down €6.6 billion on the previous month’s level. The goods account surplus increased slightly, but the deficit in invisible current transactions widened to a far greater extent.

    Die Bruttoemissionen am deutschen Rentenmarkt lagen im Mai 2024 mit 142,8 Mrd € leicht unter dem Wert des Vormonats (149,1 Mrd €). Nach Abzug der Tilgungen und unter Berücksichtigung der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten stieg der Umlauf heimischer Rentenwerte um 23,4 Mrd €. Ausländische Schuldverschreibungen wurden für netto 4,3 Mrd € auf dem deutschen Markt untergebracht. Im Ergebnis nahm damit der Umlauf von Schuldverschreibungen in Deutschland um 27,7 Mrd € zu.
