The German government has decided to issue the next €2 commemorative coin in its "Federal States" series as of 2018 March 3rd, this time dedicated to the German federal state of Berlin (motif: Charlottenburg Palace).

In 2002 the Federal Ministry of Finance asked the Deutsche Bundesbank to present a study on currency requirements in Germany. This study is intended to contain a macroeconomic analysis of the quantitative development of cash, as well as qualitative aspects which could influence currency requirements.

How will cash be used in the future? A recent Bundesbank study has investigated this question, outlining three different scenarios for cash payments in 2037. The study provides an idea of the social and economic environment in which cash will be embedded in the future.

The German government has decided to mint a 2€ commemorative coin marking 1,275 years since the birth of Charlemagne, to be issued from 30th March 2023.

Speaking in Frankfurt, Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann underscored the importance of the G20 for international free trade and for progress in financial market regulation. In times like these, international cooperation is particularly important, he said, which is why the G20 is a "precious treasure".
