The German banks responding to the Bank Lending Survey (BLS) once again tightened their credit standards for loans to enterprises somewhat in the first quarter of 2021. Standards remained unchanged for loans to households for house purchase, and they were eased marginally for consumer credit and other lending to households.

Economic output in Germany declined in the first quarter of this year, according to the latest edition of the Bundesbank’s Monthly Report. Many services sectors suffered larger losses than in the previous quarter due to containment measures being tightened and prolonged. In addition, the upturn in industrial output was not sustained in the first two months.

The financial assets of households in Germany came to €6,950 billion at the end of 2020, increasing by €211 billion, or 3.1%, compared with the third quarter. Der Absatz von Schuldverschreibungen durch Ansässige im Euro-Währungsgebiet betrug im Februar 2021 insgesamt 658,8 Mrd €. Die Tilgungen beliefen sich auf 529,3 Mrd €, wodurch sich ein Nettoabsatz in Höhe von 129,5 Mrd € ergab. Die Jahreswachstumsrate des Umlaufs an Schuldverschreibungen, die von Ansässigen im Euroraum begeben wurden, lag im Berichtsmonat bei 7,6 %, verglichen mit 7,4 % im Januar 2021.

Auf Datenschutz legen sowohl Öffentlichkeit als auch Fachkreise bei einem möglichen zukünftigen digitalen Euro den größten Wert. Bevorzugt wird eine Integration des digitalen Euro in bestehende Bank- und Zahlungssysteme. Öffentliche Konsultation liefert wertvollen Input für das Eurosystem, das Mitte 2021 über den Beginn der formellen Untersuchungsphase entscheidet.
