Card payments are now the predominant form of electronic payment in Germany, as highlighted in the Bundesbank’s latest Monthly Report. The main driving forces behind the increased usage of cards as a means of payment have been the introduction of contactless technologies as well as changes in consumer behaviour as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Monthly Report, the authors analyse current developments in the card market in Germany as well as other trends such as instant payments and mobile payments.

XML format can be used to submit payment reports pursuant to Annexes Z 4, Z 8 and Z 10 to Z 15 to the Foreign Trade and Payments Regulation. Files can be transmitted using an internet browser or, for larger volumes of data, using an automatic procedure.

Stock reports pursuant to Annexes Z 5, Z 5a and Z 5b to the Foreign Trade and Payments Regulation can be submitted via file transfer in different file formats.

These statistics concern securities deposits which are operated for domestic and foreign depositors ("B safe custody business") by the institutions required to report. In addition, domestic banks also have to report their own securities portfolios ("A safe custody business") irrespective of where the securities are being kept in safe custody.

Within the framework of banking statistics, information on the assets and liabilities of all monetary financial institutions (MFIs) in Germany is collected on a monthly basis. In addition, more detailed information on important balance sheet items is obtained through quarterly surveys.

How do you actually become First Deputy Governor? How does the Bundesbank use artificial intelligence and what is its position on crypto-assets? Around 100 school pupils from all over Germany posed these and many other questions to the Bundesbank’s First Deputy Governor Sabine Mauderer at the Bundesbank’s Pupils’ Day. International trade in services refers to the exchange of intangible services such as financial services, tourism or IT between countries. Unlike in goods trade, no physical goods are exchanged. Globalisation, technological developments and the opening-up of markets have greatly increased its importance.

Im Oktober 2025 lag das Emissionsvolumen am deutschen Rentenmarkt mit einem Bruttoabsatz von 127,3 Mrd € unter dem Vormonat (139,3 Mrd €). Nach Abzug der im Vergleich zum Vormonat niedrigeren Tilgungen und unter Berücksichtigung der Eigenbestandsveränderungen der Emittenten wurden inländische Schuldverschreibungen für netto 19,1 Mrd € begeben. 

German enterprises constitute net debtors vis-à-vis non-residents: Standing at €1920 billion at the end of October 2025, their liabilities arising from financial operations and trade credits, exceeded their corresponding assets of €1594 billion by €327 billion. Compared with the previous month, this is a change of €35 billion.

Die deutsche Leistungsbilanz verzeichnete im Oktober 2025 einen Überschuss von 14,8 Mrd €. Das Ergebnis lag um 1,0 Mrd € unter dem Niveau des Vormonats.
