This system of indicators uses a number of data items, most of them publicly available, to provide a quick overview over green finance in Germany and its latest developments. It distinguishes financial, real economic and climate-related indicators.

German payment service providers operated around 103 million current accounts last year. The payment statistics published by the Deutsche Bundesbank also show that the number of transactions involving these accounts in 2017 increased compared with 2016.

Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz and William Nyagaka, Director of Kenya School of Monetary Studies, extend the Memorandum of Understanding that has existed since 2007.

Confidence in a currency is rooted in cash. In Germany, it is the Bundesbank’s task to provide an adequate supply of high-quality euro banknotes and coins at all times. The Bundesbank provides retailers and banks with cash, withdraws counterfeit money from circulation and replaces damaged coins and banknotes.

The Byzantine Empire was one of the most significant and powerful states in the Middle Ages. It emerged from the eastern part of the Roman Empire, which was split into two in AD 395. The modern name "Byzantine Empire" is derived from the ancient Greek city of Byzantium. The Byzantines, however, considered themselves Roman. Constantinople, now Istanbul, was the capital of their empire. Its namesake, the Roman emperor Constantine the Great (306-337), refounded the city on the site of Byzantium.
