Banknote circulation in Germany has a small environmental footprint. This is the result of a study commissioned by the Deutsche Bundesbank which examines the environmental impact of the issuance, distribution, use and disposal of euro banknotes.

The total environmental impact per person of a year’s worth of average cash payments in the euro area is very low. According to the ECB study, it is equivalent to driving a standard car for eight kilometres. The Eurosystem is committed to making euro banknotes as environmentally friendly as possible, whilst ensuring cash is widely available and accepted.

Die deutsche Leistungsbilanz verzeichnete im September 2025 einen Überschuss von 18,6 Mrd €. Das Ergebnis lag um 9,1 Mrd € über dem Niveau des Vormonats. Wesentlich dafür war der höhere Aktivsaldo im Warenhandel. Hinzu kam der Umschwung ins Plus im Bereich der „unsichtbaren“ Leistungstransaktionen, die neben Dienstleistungen auch Primär- und Sekundärein­kommen umfassen.
