    In an interview on the ARD TV news show "Bericht aus Berlin" (Report from Berlin), Jens Weidmann assessed the risks of deflation as slight. Looking at the Greek elections, he said that he hoped the Greek government would not be making any promises that the country could not afford. (interview in German)

  • Jens Weidmann zu Basel III-Verhandlungen

    "Während der Verhandlungen des Baseler Ausschusses in den vergangenen Tagen in Santiago de Chile haben sich die unterschiedlichen Positionen zwar weiter angenähert und es konnten viele offene Fragen geklärt werden, eine Einigung wurde jedoch nicht erzielt. Wir werden daher weiter mit Nachdruck daran arbeiten, bis Anfang Januar – wenn sich die Chefs der Notenbanken und der Bankaufsichtsbehörden treffen – zu einem Abschluss der Verhandlungen zu kommen, denn auch die regulatorische Unsicherheit belastet die Funktionsfähigkeit des Bankensektors.

    Ein erfolgreiches Verhandlungsergebnis muss zum einen die Widerstandskraft des Finanzsektors weiter stärken, zum anderen muss es aber auch regional ausgeglichen sein und darf den risikoorientierten Ansatz des Baseler Rahmenwerks nicht aushöhlen."

  • Diplôme HEC d'Honneur

    Bundesbankpräsident Jens Weidmann ist am 25. Februar von der angesehenen, französischen Business School HEC Paris mit dem Diplôme HEC d’Honneur geehrt worden. Diese Auszeichnung wird Persönlichkeiten verliehen, die sich auf einem speziellen Gebiet wie Politik, Ökonomie, Unternehmertum oder im Hinblick auf internationale Beziehungen in außergewöhnlicher Weise verdient gemacht haben. Das Ehrendiplom, das nicht in einem bestimmten Turnus sondern nur als besondere Würdigung in Ausnahmefällen gewährt wird, wurde in der Geschichte der HEC Paris lediglich elf Mal vergeben.

    Jens Weidmann steht als Preisträger des Diplôme HEC d’Honneur in einer Reihe mit zuvor ausgezeichneten Größen der Wirtschaft wie Bill Gates (Microsoft), Jeffrey Immelt (General Electric) und Sam Palmisano (IBM), begeisterten Europäern wie José Manuel Barroso und Romano Prodi, Staatmännern wie Mikhail Gorbachev, Aleksander Kwasniewski, Abdoulaye Wade und Valéry Giscard d’Estaing sowie den zwei renommierten, deutschen Kanzlern: Helmut Schmidt und Helmut Kohl.

    Bundesbankpräsident Weidmann sagte bei Entgegennahme des Ehrentitels: „Die Tatsache, dass ich bereits der dritte deutsche Staatsbürger bin, der das Diplôme erhält, ist Ausdruck der engen Beziehungen zwischen Frankreich und Deutschland.“
