In 2024, the Bundesbank registered approximately 72,400 counterfeit euro banknotes with a nominal value of €4.5 million in German payments. The number of counterfeits was thus up by 28% on the year. 

As in 2023, the monetary policy measures of the past few years shaped the Bundesbank’s annual accounts in the 2024 financial year. For the reporting year, it has recorded an accumulated loss of €19.2 billion.

The JANIS dataset contains annual financial statements of German non-financial corporations which are sent to the Bundesbank for credit assessment purposes, as well as financial statements from public sources. JANIS is an extension of the USTAN dataset of corporate balance sheet statistics.

The Centralised Securities Database is a security-by-security reference database that contains data on instruments, issuers and prices for debt securities, equity instruments and investment fund shares issued worldwide. A security-by-security database is a microdatabase that stores statistics at an individual security level.

The dataset covers selected master data of the banking statistics for legally dependent and independent majority-owned foreign affiliates of German MFIs that are banks themselves.

The Bundesbank is expanding its reform proposals for central government’s debt brake. With regard to the debt ratio, Germany is doing well by international standards. Our reform proposal for the debt brake preserves sound public finances whilst at the same time facilitating urgently needed investment, Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said. The concept supports measures needed to strengthen infrastructure and defence whilst ensuring sustainable public finances over the long term, in line with European rules.

The introduction of the Eurosystem Collateral Management System (ECMS) will entail functional and technical changes alike for all future participants.
