Current Focus: It’s getting hot in here – understand your climate-related physical risk indicators
Objective
Participants of this online course will have the opportunity to gain insights into the analysis of geospatial, forward-looking physical risk data and tools. To this end, we will leverage public global databases and generative AI to support the analyses.
Content
- Primer on Climate Scenarios
- Extreme Events
- Digression: Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)
- Introduction to Spatiotemporal Data and Selected Databases
- Case Study 1: Global Warming
- The Concept of “Risk” Related to Climate Change Impacts
- Case Study 2: Hazard and Exposure
- Digression: Damage Functions
Target group
This online course is aimed at staff in central banks and supervisory authorities who are interested in learning how to use gridded climate data, such as those from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6), together with gridded exposure data aligned with the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) to derive both gridded and country-level indicators by overlaying climate hazards with exposure information for human or ecological systems.
No prior experience is required; the session will feature instructor-led demonstrations of code-based workflows, supported by generative AI, rather than a full hands-on training.
Technical requirements
Computer with microphone, camera, speakers or headphones, current internet browser.
